Organizing NE Ohio's quest for regional unity: editorial

Over the past four decades, what passes for growth in Greater Cleveland has followed a pattern all-too-familiar to those who have reached middle age: The region has gotten wider, not more substantial.

As The Plain Dealer's Steven Litt noted last week, the population of the 12 counties in Ohio's northeast corner actually declined between 1970 and 2010 by 7 percent.

That's a loss of roughly 300,000 people.
