CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald will announce the creation of the County Health Alliance on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. The Alliance will encourage the mayors, managers and trustees of the county to join FitzGerald in promoting healthier communities and workplaces. The 2010 County Health Rankings had Cuyahoga County ranked 69th out of the 88 Ohio counties. Cuyahoga County is experiencing a trend of escalating chronic disease rates such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer, and FitzGerald wants to join with local officials in promoting healthier workplaces and communities to try to change these disappointing statistics.

Joining FitzGerald at this announcement is Ron Sims, Former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Prior to his appointment at HUD, Sims served for 12 years as the elected Executive of King County in Washington State. As County Executive, Sims was nationally recognized for his work on the integration of environmental, social equity and public health policies. Mr. Sims will be speaking at The City Club of Cleveland before the press event.
